Glitz, glamour and A-list clientele make this London eating institution as popular with the punters as the critics

Review

Where is it?

Neon blue signage make Le Caprice easily identifiable on Arlington Street. Behind the Ritz, it's round the corner from Green Park tube station and once you reach the venue make your way through the revolving door to one of London's favourite restaurants.

What's it like?

Celebs including Elton John, the Duchess of Cornwall, Joan Collins and Stella McCartney frequent this London institution, and it has a buzzing, dramatic, place-to-be feel. The staff have the dignity and organisation of a well-organised ballet, moving seamlessly around the room distributing food that seems to appear in an instant. Like its Caprice Holdings stablemate The Ivy, Le Caprice has a menu with dishes from under a tenner to over £100, my particular favourites are the eggs benedict, the world-famous salmon fishcakes (Michael Winner's favourite) and the unmissable calf's liver. Maitre d' Jesus always tells me I have it too pink for his tastes, and tries to convince me to have it cooked for longer, but it's just perfect as it is in my opinion! The frozen berries in hot white chocolate sauce are an unmissable end to the meal too, and I always wash everything down with a bottle of Laurent Perrier pink champagne (£65).

Why does Johnny Ikon love it?

I love it for its combination of glamour with comfort, it feels like old-style theatre and you're always sure to spot the A-list (Big Brother rejects need not apply). I'll let you in on a Johnny Ikon secret - ask for Table 7 if you want to put a few celebrity noses out of joint, it's the best!
