Grand, glam, gorgeous!
Where is it?
The Wolseley is an institution on Piccadilly, despite only having opened in 2003. Located easily by the hatted doormen, the restaurant is located in the old Wolseley car showroom, and is fully restored to its 1920s former glory with grand pillars and arches. It can be reached easily from Piccadilly Circus or Green Park underground stations.
What's it like?
The feel is one of muted glamour, with Chris Corbin and Jeremy King creating the feel of a Parisian or Viennese all-day cafe, complete with the arrogant staff! Keep an eye out for Joan Collins, Parkinson and Nigella, and insist on sitting in the A-list horseshoe area. Maybe you'll be sharing the banquette with someone infinitely more glamorous than you, as the glitterati flock here from 7am daily. Start the days with eggs and pastries, my favourite is duck eggs and haggis, or a caviar omelette. For dinner, I go for foie gras followed by lamb chops with bubble and squeak. Delicious! You'll pay top dollar for such treats of course, so be prepared for that.
Why does Johnny Ikon love it?
The Wolseley is a real treat. Ignore the high prices and snooty staff, I just can't get enough of the glamour and flair that everything you're served here comes with. I also love that you can order anything from crumpets to oysters!
